Hamra, Beirut district
Barzakh is a new not-for-profit cultural space situated in the central Hamra district, right above what used to be the Horseshoe café, an iconic meeting place for intellectuals, artists and writers during the 70's and 80's.
The space is 300sqm and houses a library of over 50,000 books, magazines, publications and cassettes, mostly in Arabic. The books and magazines are mostly archives, spanning mostly the last 50 years, some even rare, but will include contemporary titles as well. The topics cover a wide range of the cultural and creative spectrum in the Arab region and will include curated selections of literature, music, art, design, philosophy, and poetry. The library also hosts a digital archive of films, music, photographs, prints, as well as a podcast.
