Tripoli souk

Tripoli and its souks are marvellous, as they allow visitors to step into a unique, busy and colourful universe, and gain insight into centuries-old traditions. Meandering through the souks with its lively passageways and small hidden alleys, plentiful smells and a plethora of sounds and colours, you are stepping into the culture of this old city. There are a total of nine souks in Tripoli: Attareen, Bazerkan, Haddadin, Haraj, Kameh, Koundarjiyeh, Nahhasin, Samak (fish), Sayyaghin (tailors). You can also find hammams and mosques throughout the souks.-

Since the Ottoman period, the alleys of Baalbak's Old Souks offer butcheries, bakeries, spices and handicrafts.-

Batroun district

The old souk of Douma has preserved its traditional cachet. This small souk in the middle of town offers various shops selling local and artisanal crafts. You can buy local specialties, including halawa, olive oil and homemade jams, among others.&nbsp;-

The old souks of Batroun were built in the 19th century and renovated in the early 2000s. The stalls have become more and more popular with pubs, but the souks still boasts some artisanal functions: grocery stores, butchers, fruit and vegetable stalls.-

Jbeil district

Byblos souk

Built during the Ottoman reign, the souk of Byblos is a show of their economic spirit. It was made up of several khans (inns), shops and horse stables. Today, the souk is filled with small local shops that sell souvenirs, local crafts and various other merchandise. There are also cozy bars and cafes along the walk, waiting for you to go in. The scene shifts from day to night: during the day, you may find tourists and school children on a field trip. At night, the place changes and most bars look like a dream venue for a night out.-

The old, arcaded souk of Jounieh is located on the waterfront of the city. The area, known as "Old Jounieh," has recently undergone an overhaul and now hosts outdoor cafes and restaurants mixed among boutiques, artisan shops, banks, supermarkets and hotels. As soon as the sun sets, the daytime charm turns into nighttime glitz. Scores of restaurants, pubs and night clubs line the old bay sideroad from Jounieh northward to Maameltein.-

Located just 1km south of Kaslik, the charming and restored 17th-century souk area of Zouk Mikael is worth the detour. The area hosts attractive bars and restaurants which mostly fill up in summer. It’s one of the last places in Lebanon where weavers work and sell their craft. Formed around narrow pedestrian streets, it attracts an impressive number of tourists both, Arab and Western, because of its historical character.-

With its hundreds of stores, Bourj Hammoud has become a popular shopping destination with three specialties: jewelry, textiles and shoe repair. Apart from jewelry, you can find mostly low-end products and replicas of famous brands. The souk has several major streets: Armenia Street (mostly jewelry and handicraft stores), Marach Street (textile, shoes, spices), and Arax Street (textile, shoes).-

In the heart of Aley stands its souk, a long boulevard lined with palm trees that offers several street cafes, outdoor restaurants and pubs. You will also find antique shops and retail boutiques along the street.-

Between the Sea Castle and the Castle of St. Louis stretches Saida's old city, which is one of Lebanon's most characterful and authentic souk area. It is a delight to wander the narrow lanes, ducking into tunnels and discovering venerable buildings along the way. There, you'll find the the picturesque vaulted souk, where workmen still ply their trades. The Saida souks have been recently refurbished but keep their old charm with the original architecture and small stall designs. You'll find clothing, hardware, homemade soap, wood working, shoes, furniture, falafels, and even lingerie. You can easily spend a whole day in the souks searching for a unique souvenir.-

In the heart of Jezzine stands its souk for you to discover the many craft shops selling the region’s most famous traditional cutlery and decorative items. It is lined with provision shops and cafes for a special taste of traditional food and drink.&nbsp;-

The village of Rachaya is known for the skills of its craftsmen in the field of silver jewelry. The village center is characterized by a beautiful cobbled souk that stretches for more than 250 meters. The souk offers various shops selling local crafts and inexpensive goods. There is a recently renovated goldsmiths selling an assortment of gold and silver jewelry in Byzantine and other styles.&nbsp;-

One of the most important coastal cities in Lebanon is Tyre, the Queen of the Sea. Its souk is full of little shops selling gold, copper, vegetables, fish, meat, clothing and antiques, in all shapes and colors. There are also some old cafes and small snacks bustling with locals and tourists who enjoy, in a charming authentic setting, typical Lebanese dishes like foul, hummus, and Saje. If you head there early, you will catch the freshest fish deals of the day!-
