Tripoli, Tripoli district
The Museum of North Lebanon and Aakkar is located within the Castle of Tripoli, in a superb space formed by stone vaults lit by zenithal openings. What used to be a barracks with a 16th century door decorated with two-colored stones, is now a magnificent museum that tells the history of the cities of Tripoli and El-Mina as well as that of the neighboring regions.
Respecting the geography and historical chronology of the cities of North Lebanon, each room exhibits archaeological objects in its alcoves. A real journey that leads us from prehistory, illustrated by the site of Moghr al-Ahwal, to the Bronze Age and Iron Age discoveries of the site of Tell Arqa, to the remains of the Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine eras. A lapidary collection testifies to the medieval period, while the Mamluk period presents in particular the key vestiges of the Qadisha valley.
Numismatics has a special place in the museum with a beautiful collection of coins mostly minted in Tripoli.
A visit to be completed by the discovery of Mina and Tripoli with its exceptional monuments of the Mamluk and Ottoman eras.
