Smar Jbeil, Batroun district
Smar Jbeil Castle is located on an honorable hill in the town of Smar Jbeil. It is a fortified military fortress containing traces of defensive divisions and fortifications, and it rises about 500 meters above sea level. The history of its construction goes back to the Phoenician kings of Byblos, who were famous for their palaces and castles carved out of rock. Then it was inhabited by the King of Babylon “Bakhtasar” who carved a drawing of him and the queen on its northern wall. The remains of this castle today are one of the most important and most beautiful archaeological areas in the city of Batroun, as it is visited by tourists from all over the country, wishing to learn about the Phoenician civilization.
