Jbeil / Byblos, Jbeil district
Occupying a prime position inside the medieval city wall of Byblos, Beit Faris wa Lucia is an invitation to travel back in time. The stunning property, owned by Najwa and her family, boasts a two-thousand-year history: its foundations form part of a Crusader tower, an arch on the ground floor dates back to the 1st century, and many other marvellous architectural features are visible throughout the building. Pretty gardens containing fruit trees and colourful flowers surround the guesthouse, while the rooftop terrace provides a magical viewpoint over the Mediterranean Sea and the ancient Citadel of Byblos. The guesthouse is an ode to Lucia al-Kossaifi and her husband Faris, who were admired for their hospitality and acts of generosity towards the community. It is in this beautiful home that the couple invited friends, neighbours and guests from all walks of life, and raised a family of eight children, including Najwa, the current owner. To continue this tradition of hospitality, Najwa recently took over the preservation of the home from her sister Daad and her family; and with the help of loved ones, the house was carefully renovated. Najwa’s free spirit and open heart make her a welcoming host. She will happily share with you her passion for Byblos and tell you stories of Yemen, where she lived and worked for many years before returning to Lebanon.
