The library of the Institute for Palestine Studies was established at the same time as the Institute in 1963. It was set up with the aim of achieving some of the principal goals of the Institute for Palestine Studies: the preservation of Palestinian intellectual and cultural production, and the collection of documents and research on the question of Palestine and the Arab-Israeli conflict in its various phases and developments.Over the years, the library has increased its acquisitions and expanded its role, to the point that it is now a unique resource for research and scholarship on the Palestinian cause. The library's collections include a wide range of basic reference works, books and periodicals in Arabic, English, French, and Hebrew. The library's collection places a particular emphasis on Palestine, its population, history and society, as well on the political, social, military and economic aspects of Israel. Viscount Philippe de Tarazi, (1865-1906), a historian and a bibliophile, had a rich personal collection made up of more than 200,000 works, some 3,000 invaluable manuscripts, along with the first issues of periodicals published in the region, and inestimable documents in the history of Arab and Middle Eastern press. Soon, he became aware that a country like Lebanon, depositary of a culture that is more than 6,000 years old, couldn't blossom culturally in its immediate environment and beyond, if it didn't preserve first and foremost its memory, the absence of which means the absence of civilization.Under the pressure of Lebanese intellectuals, supported by the reports of a mission financed by the European Union, the National Library was finally recognized in 1999 as a national cultural project. This project, carried by Lebanese admirers of books, led to officially adopting the principle of the National Library Rehabilitation. It also provided an opportunity to elaborate a project, at the public level, in which the State exerts all its efforts to enable the Lebanese to fully enjoy their multiculturalism.Driven by this vision, a private association, with the aim of supporting the project, was born in 2000: The Lebanese National Library Foundation, with a definitive site being given to the institution, the faculty of law, a traditional architectural building, in the district of Sanayeh, decided upon by virtue of a ministerial decree, as a permanent site for the future National Library.

Baaqline National Library occupies a historic building that goes back to 1897, known then as "Baakleen Saray", comprising a court, a prison, and a post of the gendarmerie. Upon the initiative of Walid Jumblatt in 1987, the building was restored and furnished to assume the role of a public library, which was equipped with various volumes, reference books, periodicals, and necessary equipment run by a well-trained and experienced staff. Upon his request, the library was annexed to the Ministry of Culture under the Council of Ministers Resolution, and thus became a public establishment.-Opening hours Monday-Friday 8am-1pm

Nahr Ibrahim Municipal Library

The library contains around 6000 books classified according to Dewey’s World, documentary, novels and children books in Arabic, English and French. They are classified according to topics (ecosystem, biodiversity, alternative energy, pollution, wildlife, medicinal herbs, agriculture …), and include albums, storybooks and novels for children from age 4 to 14. In 2014, the library was also fully equipped with computers. The books in the library were donated from a number of institutions: the French Institute, Sabeel Society Association, the Ministry of Culture, and Nahr Ibrahim Municipality. In addition, in August 2916, the library received 397 children books in French, Arabic and English, donated by the Italian Human Land Organization, in cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). A cooperation agreement was signed recently with the school of Mrs. Um El Nour (Al-Aqiba), and Donbosco School, to strengthen the relationship between the public library and nearby public and private schools.

Originally founded as a public library in Zouk Mikaël during the 1940’s, this municipal facility was re-established in April of 2009 as the Youth and Culture Center. Lebanon’s 15-year civil war greatly hindered the development of the library’s services. It wasn’t until peacetime that the Municipality of Zouk Mikaël called upon a new generation of young architects to conceive a cultural complex, both modern and traditional. In collaboration with the Lebanese University of Fine Arts (ALBA), recognition for achievement was won in a competition launched by the university: this was Lebanon’s first approach at municipal participation.

Founded by Mrs. Nidal Al Achkar in 1994, Al Madina Theatre is a theatre, exhibition and workshop space for all types of cultural activities. Since its opening, many local and international companies and artists have performed at the Al Madina Theatre. Al Madina Theatre developed into the Al Madina Theatre Association for Arts and Culture in March 2005, with a committee composed of prominent personalities from the civil society: lawyers, scholars, development experts, cultural specialists, etc. The Association changed location in March 2005 moving from Clemenceau Street to Hamra Street.Al Madina Theatre’s goal is to promote open dialogue and to create a space of free expression for all issues facing the Lebanese and Arab societies. Al Bustan Theatre

Every winter for the past 28 years, the Emile Bustani Auditorium comes to life for a unique and unprecedented tradition in Lebanon: a winter music season. The Al Bustan International Festival of Music and the Performing Arts is one of the Middle East’s iconic cultural events, established by Myrna Bustani as her contribution to reviving culture and the arts in Lebanon after the devastation of 17 years of civil war.The Al Bustan Festival keeps Lebanon’s rich tradition of hosting international cultural events alive. Held over five weeks in February and March, the festival hosts some of the world’s greatest international musicians and artists who present about 18 performances of predominantly chamber music opera, orchestral concerts, choral concerts, dance and theatre.-

AZM Cultural Center - The House of Art. One of the most active cultural centers in Lebanon. It has been enriching its diverse surroundings and contributing in boosting the cultural movement in the North for over a quarter of a century.It was built while preserving its history and beauty that is believed to date back to the twelfth century era. It was built by the last Crusader for the Armenian king's daughter, Cecilia. At the end of the 18th century, it was used by a US evangelical staff as a hospital. It was called “Dr. Boys’ hospital” until 1945.In the year 1990, the building was restored to maintain its natural beauty and history by the artist Abdel Nasser Yassin, when it got the full &nbsp;attention of Mr. Najib Mikati, who assigned El-AZM &amp; Saadeh organization to restore it one last time, so it could become a very distinctive haven suitable for artists and their creative work. The center’s management works very hard to organize and produce all kinds of artistic and cultural events, in addition to sponsoring the activities of associations and clubs in the city.The tasks in its goals as a cultural center for the Lebanese is to study and document the various aspects of cultural life in the city and to create strategies and tactics to develop and promote the talents on the artistic production level and to show the real face of the city of El-Mina,Tripoli.-

The Sunflower Cultural Space for Performing Arts and Cinema (Masra7 Douwar Shams - Théâtre Tournesol) was founded by the SHAMS Association in 2005 in Beirut to carry out an artistic and cultural action, focusing on continuity and development, and to give the chance for new artists to express themselves, to confront and to hone their skills and knowledge.&nbsp;Since the establishment of the Sunflower Cultural Space, SHAMS has welcomed in its multifunctional premises four organizations operating at different levels of the cultural sector, ranging from the artistic to cultural and social. Villa Al Qamar - Art Residency

The Villa Al Qamar, a new residency place within the Institut Français of Deir el Qamar, and supported by the Fabrique des Résidences of the Institut français, welcomes three residents a year for long periods of time, following an annual call for applications. These residencies, open to French and Lebanese artists in solo or duo, are multidisciplinary and are intended to radiate throughout the territory. It aims to strengthen cultural exchanges between France and Lebanon.The Villa is located within the walls of an old caravanserai and the adjoining old synagogue, in the historic village of Deir El Qamar and the mountainous Chouf region.-

The Monnot Theatre is a private theatre and has been a cultural hotspot in Lebanon since 1997. The Phoenician Galley and the Gutenberg Press, the Association's logo, evoke the exchange between the East and the West.-

Lebanese National Library

Viscount Philippe de Tarazi, (1865-1906), a historian and a bibliophile, had a rich personal collection made up of more than 200,000 works, some 3,000 invaluable manuscripts, along with the first issues of periodicals published in the region, and inestimable documents in the history of Arab and Middle Eastern press. Soon, he became aware that a country like Lebanon, depositary of a culture that is more than 6,000 years old, couldn't blossom culturally in its immediate environment and beyond if it didn't preserve first and foremost its memory, the absence of which means the absence of civilization.Under the pressure of Lebanese intellectuals, supported by the reports of a mission financed by the European Union, the National Library was finally recognized in 1999 as a national cultural project. This project, carried by Lebanese admirers of books, led to officially adopting the principle of the National Library Rehabilitation. It also provided an opportunity to elaborate a project at the public level, in which the State exerts all its efforts to enable the Lebanese to fully enjoy their multiculturalism.Driven by this vision, a private association was born in 2000 with the aim of supporting the project: The Lebanese National Library Foundation.&nbsp;-

In this traditional Lebanese house, located in the heart of the neighbourhood of Ashrafieh, the objective is to host artists in residence and to offer master classes to young Lebanese musicians."I would like to create in this house a space of culture and especially to raise the morale of the Lebanese musicians who are depressed by the situation", confides Zeina Saleh Kayali, founder of Beit Tabaris, explaining that the budding musicians are very often left to perfect their skills in Europe at the end of their musical studies. These master classes are totally free of charge, "and their purpose is to bring them something at home that they can no longer have because of the economic crisis".-

KED is an urban modular multi-functional space located by the Beirut River, in Karantina area, that hosts a range of activities and events.

Mansion

Mansion is a formerly abandoned, early twentieth-century 800 meter-square villa in Zuqaq al-Blat, Beirut, that has slowly transformed, since 2012, into a shared initiative and space, conscientiously maintained by its inhabitants and visitors. The former—artists, researchers, architects, activists, bicycle delivers, curators, designers—operate out of offices and studios, sharing with the public a library-cum-meeting room, film projection facilities, silk-screen print station, sound studio, large communal hall, internet connection, kitchen and garden of palm, orange, red pepper and loquat trees. Open for general use between 9:00am and 7:30pm, Mansion also hosts urban activists meetings, language exchanges, yoga classes, film screenings, poetry readings, publications launches, performances and a variety of other events.

Nation Station

A grassroot initiative in an abandoned gas station at the heart of Geitawi. Nation Station has been set up to offer support for people affected by the Beirut explosion, including volunteers involved in the clean up and repairs.&nbsp;
